SES concert brings Christmas cheer

Only a Scrooge would be unmoved by the holiday spirit created by Stevenson Elementary School s Christmas program performers. Presenting twice during the school day on December 17 and again in the evening for friends and family members, students sang of reindeer, Santa, and the first Christmas. First grade classes of Mrs. K. Gilbert, Ms. Kie, Mrs. Tipton, and Mrs. Ballard and second grade classes of Mrs. Grosnik, Ms. Kincaid, Mrs. H. Gilbert, and Mrs.

Turner sang three musical selections while members of the audience smiled and clapped in appreciation. Elaine Guffy, music teacher, directed the choral selections. Under the direction of band director Susan Allpress, fifth grade students played Jolly Old St. Nicholas on recorders, after which a small ensemble played All Through the Night. Fifth grade teachers are Ms. Harned, Mrs. Lee, and Ms. Rager.

The sixth grade band played several selections, with student ensemble players adding a special touch. Trey Farlee, Jason Fox, and Jeffrey Fox played in an ensemble, as did Sydney Herndon, Dalton Clark and Henry Bouldin.

Danni Conway, Samantha Creek and Karlie Jones played The First Noel and Katelyn Jones and Taylor Daniel played “Silent Night.” Several band students created harmonic additions to the musical selections to enliven them and to make it sound as if more mature instruments were performing them. The evening ended with the band playing a rendition of Up On the Housetop to put everyone in the Christmas spirit.
