Kid Rock Brawls, Gets Booked, Released

Some genres of music lend themselves to violence more than others. Take, for instance, smooth jazz. You never hear about Kenny G smashing his woodwind over the head of a heckler, or Sade bitch slapping a paparazzo. But rock ‘n roll, hip-hop, and the unique hybrid of the two perpetrated by Kid Rock possess undeniable leanings towards aggression and violence.

Perhaps it’s no surprise then, that this past weekend Kid Rock was arrested for battery after getting into a scuffle at a Georgia Waffle House. The rap/rocker, who calls his genre “hick-hop,” and his entourage delivered a beating to Harlen DeJon Akins, 39, after he got in an exchange with a girl he knew who was traveling with the band.

The brawl spilled into the parking lot outside the Southern food vendor, but the participants soon disentangled as Rock and his following quickly boarded the tour bus and hit the road. They didn’t get far before being pulled over. The rocker and 5 others onboard were booked on misdemeanor battery charges. For Akins, the charge was more severe. After witnesses reported he punched and broke a window pane worth more than $500, he caught a charge for criminal damage to property, a felony in Georgia.

Kid Rock and friends were out of jail hours later after posting bail of $1,000 each. It’s unknown whether Akins was released so quickly. It also hasn’t been determined if Kid Rock ordered his hash browns scattered, smothered or covered, or whether he paid his bill.
