Anyway which way you look at it, Billy Elliot the Musical is as timely as it is well made.

International Chamber Music masters, The Brodsky Quartet will lead an all star line-up of musical ensembles performing at Brisbane Powerhouse as part of the Restrung Chamber Music Festival from 28 February to 2 March, 2008. Restrung Chamber Music Festival is a new vision of presenting contemporary classical music, featuring a new generation of musical arrangements and practice. The ensembles participating in the festival already command impressive national reputations.

Currently, Brisbane based groups Topology and Clocked-Out Duo are included in the festival program, as well as Perth based ensemble Wood, Continuum Sax and the Dave Chesworth Ensemble. For the first time ever, each of these exceptional ensembles will be performing together as an orchestra, under the title Six Pack Symphony. Brisbane Powerhouse specifically commissioned five of Australia s leading composers to create new works that will premiere in the concert.

These include West Australian Symphony composer, cellist and pianist Iain Grandage; and composer, performer, former Sydney Symphony bassist and Topology founding member, Robert Davidson. During the Sunday Session, each ensemble will also give individual performances of their own specific repertoire. For the more adventurous music lovers, the unique Australian electric string quartet, FourPlay , will deliver their own versions of your rock favourites.

From The Strokes to Radiohead and many more, they are a dynamic fusion of rock n roll mentality, pop sensibility and the finely honed skills of classical music practice. FourPlay contradict the popular notion that classical music and rock can never sit side by side, performing original works and covers arranged themselves, laced with vocals and effects that will impress the toughest rock/classical critics.
