Punkers take their sound to The Rock

October 15, 2008 01:18 PM - Applewood ska-punk band Keepin’ 6 has taken its sound to The Rock. The band, guitarist Jason Wilford, drummer Matt Phatty Wilkinson, bassist Dan Renwick and vocalist Bryan Hotchkiss, is in the midst of a Newfoundland tour to promote its album Uncensored . The band will hit several venues during the tour, which wraps up on Saturday in Corner Brook. And, like any punk band worth its salt, the guys are eager to try the local hooch.

We’ve heard about kissing the cod and we’ve heard the screech is good ‘” that’s what I keep getting told by everyone I talk to, so I’m looking forward to that, Wilford told the St. John’s Telegram. Earlier this year, the band shot and released its debut video LT ( Stop Tellin’ Me Lies ). Big things continue to happen for the band since it released the 11-track album Uncensored last year.

In addition to shooting the video, the band had the album released on Dude Records in Japan, performed at the EDGE 102.1 Punk-O-Rama Forever Underestimated Awards, won a MARTY, formerly known as the Mississauga Arts Awards, for Best Emerging Performing Arts Group and headlined Ska-Fest 2008 in Ottawa. Uncensored was recorded with Steve Rizun (illScarlett, Hostage Life, The Creepshow) at Drive Studios in Woodbridge. Several tracks off it are available for preview at www.myspace.com/keepin6 .
