A&R Superstar, Dante Ross’ Guide To Blazing Trails In The Rap Biz
Never give up, always keep trying. The whole experience of doing Everlast’s [of House of Pain ] record - the guys’ career was @#* ed up, he was a fallen star, very close to being bankrupt, he had no options other than via making music. He put his heart and soul into making The Whitey Ford record. We totally went left, no one believed in it. He had no choice other than to succeed. He had a heart attack while we were finishing the record.
He was laid up and I had to finish the record without him, mixing it, sequencing it, and writing all the credits out, making sure the sample clearances were in effect, art directing the record and writing the liner notes. I had to do it all while he was recuperating. I felt like his life force was so important that we had to succeed and we ended up succeeding. That’s relentless hustle.
