For its followup “Up the Downstairs,” Wilson was joined by bassist Colin Edwin and keyboardist Richard Barbieri, the latter a past member of the ’80s band Japan. Both became full-time members. Its original themes, dense textures and crisp musicianship, set them apart from other “prog” revivalists. By the new century, the group had garnered a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic. To date, it has released nine studio albums, plus assorted compilations and E.P.’s (extended play) discs.

Released earlier this year, its latest, “Fear Of a Blank Planet” (Atlantic), features appearances by a pair of “prog” legends, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and King Crimson founder Robert Fripp. Also new in 2007 is “Arriving Somewhere. …” a two-disc live DVD recorded at Chicago’s Park West. The DVD also features additional videos, bonus clips from the German TV show “Rockplast” and the film that is used in the group’s evocative stage shows.
