Musicians’ 1st concert to be Sunday in Avon

The concert is free. However, tickets are required and will be given out at the door the day of the concert. The doors will open at 2 p.m. and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating is limited. Del Vecchio will conduct the ensembles in selections by Beethoven, Brahms, Strauss, Verdi and other classical and contemporary composers.

Two choruses from “The Messiah” by Handel will be included to give listeners a taste of what they can look forward to this holiday season when the orchestra and choir present “The Messiah” on Nov. 30 and Dec. 2. Tickets for “The Messiah” will be available for purchase at Sunday’s concert. Avon Middle School is at 7199 E. U.S. 36.

The orchestra and choir were created this fall by the Hendricks Symphonic Society, a volunteer group whose mission is to provide an educational, cultural and recreational outlet for talented area musicians to share and promote the art of music, perform on a regular basis, and produce a quality musical product for the community to enjoy. The group currently has 81 choir members and 59 orchestra members.

The society recently got a grant from the Hendricks County Community Foundation Opportunity Fund. The nonprofit foundation manages funds created by individuals, families and organizations for charitable purposes. This concert also is sponsored by State Bank of Lizton and presented in cooperation with Avon School Corp. and Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church of Avon.
