* Emerging young pianist Aryo Wicaksono will preview his Washington, D.C., debut at a Tucson recital on Sunday. The concert, hosted by La Zarzuela Bed & Breakfast , will feature Wicaksono playing piano masterpieces by Beethoven, Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Wagner, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff, as well as the U.S. premieres of Ananda Sukarlan’s Etude No.
2 for Piano and Jaya Suprana’s “Tembang Alit.” Wicaksono, a University of Arizona graduate and a teaching artist with Opening Minds Through the Arts, has been performing around the world, including a sold-out debut last summer with the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra in Russia. His D.C. concert in December will be his recital debut in the noted Embassy Concert Series. Tickets for Sunday’s 3 p.m. event are $20, which includes a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. Camino de Oeste, off Gates Pass. 884-4824. * It will be an old-timey good time as Trish Klein and Frazee Ford of the Be Good Tanyas perform as part of the Rhythm & Roots fall concert series tonight at Old Town Artisans. The Vancouver, British Columbia-based folk ensemble that once included Jolie Holland has been performing traditional and original American roots music for more than a decade. Klein and Ford are coming off a group hiatus to play dates across the Southwest.
If you like Woody Guthrie, Jimmie Rodgers or the Carter Family, this concert’s for you. The evening begins at 7:30. Advance tickets are $18 through Antigone Books, Enchanted Earthworks, Plaza Liquors and 17th Street Guitars and World Music, $20 at the door. 440-4455. * Pianist Freddy Cole, brother of pop icon Nat King Cole, brings his quintet to town for a Tucson Jazz Society performance Saturday night. Aside from Nat, two of Freddy’s other brothers were also musicians.
