There are roughly 10 independent music distribution companies nationwide, and Koch is the only one on Long Island. Unlike many of its competitors in the ’90s, Koch didn’t fold or get usurped by one of the four major record companies. These distribution arms of the major labels are now Koch’s main competitors, as the truly independent labels are much smaller.
