Ten-year-old ‘new’ band finally gets big Wednesday, October 10, 2007

The American alternative-rock band Plain White T’s have a different kind of success story, having used every modern medium to achieve the title of this year’s best newcomers.

They are not really new, though ЗETЭN CEM YILMAZ ISTANBUL - Turkish Daily News The Plain White T’s are a band that appear to have achieved success effortlessly, the “modern way,” with their video for the single “Hey There Delilah” having been viewed thousands of times on video-sharing Web site YouTube, enough to propel any average band to stardom.

The alternative rock band from Illinois currently enjoy being classed as one of this year’s hottest breakthrough acts and “Hey There Delilah” is one of the most popular songs according to members of Last FM, an Internet radio and music community Web site with over 20 million users. The band’s drummer, De’Mar Hamilton, reckons it’s great to be embraced by the Internet community and said he supports phenomena such as MySpace, YouTube and Last FM.

“The best thing about these things is that people reach music freely,” said Hamilton to the Turkish Daily News during a phone interview. He is aware that those sites helped his band, in a way, build a career. Even though it is one particular song that lifted the band to their current popularity, it has not been easy for them to keep their head above water. The Plain White T’s have been active for more than a decade and they have been releasing records since 2000.
