Downtown Music Presents Opera Treemonisha By Scott Joplin
Originally from North Carolina, television personality Biff Henderson is best known as stage manager for The Late Show with David Letterman and his appearances during the CBS Mailbag segments. Soprano and music educator, Cecilia Tucker has performed in opera and concert with the Roanoke (VA) Symphony, Yonkers Philharmonic, Tri-County Opera Company, New Rochelle Opera and Westchester Opera.
She has been the featured soloist in Mendelssohn s Elijah with the Festival Ensemble Society, Beethoven s Ninth Symphony, Haydn s The Seasons with the Brookhaven Symphony and Choral, and Poulenc s Gloria with the Bayshore Orchestra. She has performed at the Winter Garden for President Bill Clinton and made her New York City debut at Alice Tully Hall. She has also performed at Merkin Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Weil Recital Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Apollo.
In addition to concertizing, she is currently soloist for Salem United Methodist Church in Harlem and Greater National A.M.E. Zion Church in Mt. Vernon, New York. This past summer, Ms. Tucker performed operatic arias and duets with the Yonkers Philharmonic at Untermyer Park. Evan Shinners, a finalist in the 2004 New York Piano Competition, is a student of . at Juilliard.
Shinners is one of those exciting rare breeds of talented young classical artists who are equally at home playing jazz, blues, gospel, rag time and a variety of other popular musical idioms.
