This annual dance music event is usually a lot of fun and, interestingly, enough - it is being held at Vector Arena in 2008. The sound system at Vector echoes a bit but it does have the advantage of shelter in case it rains and the bars inside will go down a treat.

This year s line-up features local favourites Concord Dawn, Greg Churchill and Angela Fiskin, Bevan Keys and Tim Phin as well as international DJs such as Steve Angello, Benny Benassi and David Guetta. If you don t recognise any of these names, then the event is probably not for you. Cost: $44.25-$90.80.

JAMBALAYA FESTIVAL January 4-6, Rotorua Energy Events Centre, Queens Dr, Government Gardens, Rotorua, www.jambalaya.co.nz or www.ticketek.co.nz This eclectic event is a fusion of world music, dance, circus and percussion performances. Also included are workshops, all-night dance parties and international market stalls.

The main stage delivers 10 hours of live music with a mix of overseas and local bands such as Monobloco, Blue King Brown, Batucada Sound Machine, Katchafire, Mamaku Project and Brazil Beat System. There are also late night DJs in the salsa party tent. Children under 13 can enter free-of-charge if accompanied by an adult. Cost: $175 for the full festival pass.
