Commentary on contemporary rock culture

The rock music scene is, for lack of better words, cluttered with bands trying to impersonate one another right and left these days. Whether its the ultra-big, “hard rock” of talent-less radio powerhouses like Nickelback and Hinder, or the flamboyant, “scene,” screaming and singing music like Underoath and My Chemical Romance, few bands offer that little spark of originality some call being creative.

However, Davidson, Mich., natives, Chiodos combine all of the clich d elements found in today’s rock scene and twist it into something completely new.

“A lot of the music scene is redundant and that’s something we are trying to stray from and bring a new edge to it,” said Chiodos keyboardist Bradley Bell.”We want to open people’s minds to see that it doesn’t have to sound like the same thing every song.” Chiodos - vocalist Craig Owens, guitarists Jason Hale and Pat Mcmanaman, bassist Matt Goddard, drummer Derrick Frost and Bell - mix their heavy metal-esque guitar and drum sound with the almost Dr.

Jeckyll/Mr.Hyde, screaming and singing vocals of Owens. Their influences range from scene founders Saves the Day to classic rock gods Queen, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin.
