THS band concert a success

Editor, Daily Press: I just thought I’d drop you a note about the great concert last [week] at the high school. The Tahlequah Tigers Orange Express high-school band performed along with the seventh and eighth-grade band, the sixth-grade Band, and the fifth-grade band. To a packed out PAC, the bands performed music for an hour and a half. Two-hundred-eighty-four students played to the appreciative families.

The fifth-grade band played “Jingle Bells,” “Lightly Row,” “A Mozart Melody” and “Christmas Joys.” The sixth-grade band played “Christmas In Concert” and “Christmas In England.” The seventh- and eighth-grade band performed “Jingle Bells Forever” and “Santa At the Symphony,” which was a melody of Christmas tunes and pieces of classical music. The Tahlequah Tiger Orange Express did an excellent job on all of their pieces, which included “Sleep In Heavenly Peace,” “Jazzle Bells,” “Old St.

Nick Takes a Rockin’ Trip,” “Heaven’s Light,” “Sleigh Ride,” and lastly, “The Nutcracker Suite.” The hard work of the students did shine. As cold as it was outside the PAC, it was warm with the Christmas spirit, and clearly everyone had a great time. The stage was decorated with red and white poinsettias, which were for sale, and many were taken home. Mr. [Harvey] Price, in his tuxedo, was quite the salesman! Mr. Nathan Morrissey and Mrs.

Lindsey Pittman did a fine job with the underclassmen bands. Both directors showed off the talents of the elementary- and middle-school bands. Daniel Dew, band major and Oklahoma Centennial Band member, and nine other of the THS Oklahoma Centennial Band members, presented Mr. Price with an appreciation gift of balloons and a plaque. The plaque expressed the members’ appreciation for everything Mr.
