The Legacy of Kevin DuBrow

It’s not the shot heard around the world, like what Black Sabbath did to metal. Not was it a revolution in sound like Judas Priest or what Metallica delivered. The music, quite frankly, was not that revolutionary into itself. Not that the music was bad. It was good. Fun, good old fashion fist pounding anthems. What Quite Riot did that no one else had done, was make metal and hard rock culturally mainstream. Metal, and hard rock had an image, just like it does today, but then it was all bad news.

It was bad for kids and encouraged all the wrong things. Quite Riot took some simple fun anthems, made them loud but not bad, all wrapped in an image that was tough, but acceptable to average people. Combine that with that new channel called MTV and you ended up with a cultural revolution. “Cum On Feel The Noise” was the first Top 5 metal song ever, and Metal Health was the first #1 metal album ever.
