Jazz scene’s musical youth blow up a storm

NYJO has become renowned world-wide as a showcase for the country’s best young musicians. Since it was founded in 1965 by Bill Ashton, most of the rising generation of jazz musicians have passed through its ranks, often becoming established stars whilst still playing with NYJO. With an enormous and varied repertoire, a NYJO concert can be enjoyed by all audiences, not just the jazz aficionados.

They have played hundreds of concerts all over Britain, from Ronnie Scott’s, the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall to clubs and schools, made numerous television and radio programmes, recorded some 40 albums, and toured world-wide. Thursday’s concert starts at 8pm. Tickets are priced at ВЈ15.50 (ВЈ14 jazz club members) from the box office on 01775 764777. For the best news, sport and leisure coverage in the area turn to the Boston Standard, out every Wednesday for just 40p.
