Huge crowds greeting Soda Stereo tour

MIAMI, Dec. 2 (UPI) — A reunion tour of the Argentine rock group Soda Stereo has been met with sold-out concerts in Latin America and now is enjoying great success in Miami. The Miami Herald said Sunday the 1980s rock trio has drawn fans from Canada and South America to their Miami shows and by the time the group’s international tour ends, it will have entertained more than a million people altogether.

Drummer Charly Alberti, who makes up Soda Stereo along with bassist Zeta Bosio and vocalist Gustavo Cerati, said they were shocked by the popularity their tour has enjoyed. “We’re breaking records in all these countries,” Alberti said. “It’s really a crazy thing.” Cerati, meanwhile, has credited the trio’s newfound success on the fact they embrace the origins of rock en espanol.

“I think people identify with the music beyond its being something that belongs to a particular country,” Cerati told the Herald. “It seems like they feel it’s theirs.” The band is performing two more shows in Miami Tuesday and Wednesday, then will continue touring until just before Christmas. 2007 United Press International.
