‘High School Musical’ returns to stage for concerts

LEWISTON - Disney’s “High School Musical in Concert” is scheduled for four performances on the Lewiston Middle School stage Dec. 28-30. It’s like a second chance for everyone who missed the fully-staged production by Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre in July. That show sold out before opening night this past July - a first in the organization’s 68-year history. Director Richard Martin said this concert version brings back the original lead performers and dancers.

“It will be no less exciting” than the staged musical, and it will feature a couple of new songs from “Disney’s High School Musical II,” Martin said. He emphasized that the concert version of this show retains “the non-stop energetic dancing and singing” of the staged version.

Reprising their roles in “Disney’s High School Musical in Concert” are Colin Whiteman and James Kramlich as Troy and Chad of the jocks; Katherine Demarest and Molly Keane-Dreyer as Gabriella and Taylor of the brainiacs; and Kylie Keene and Michael Weber as Sharpay and Ryan of the performing arts students.

Principal songs include “We’re All in This Together,” “What I’ve Been Looking For,” and “Get’cha Head in the Game.” In some cases, songs that were performed as duets in the original show will be presented by the six lead characters in the concert version.
