Concert for Darfur
THE concert for Darfur will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 6pm in the Tathra Uniting Church hall, behind the police station. It features a line-up of world and folk music, as well as belly-dancing and poetry. Mandala is a boppy band led by Arati George that plays music from all over the world, including African, islander, Gypsy and Arabic. Tabouli is a well-loved Arabic-style drumming group who will perform with the Turkish Delights, beautiful belly-dancers from Bermagui.
Two local choirs will be performing, the Soundscape women performing world music and the Mumbulla Dahs men with a folky feel. Organisers are pleased that they can also present poets Monique Watt and Robin Davidson, who are powerfully engaging. Cost of entry is $10 for adults with proceeds going to the very urgent need for help for survivors of the devastating Janjawid raids in Darfur (Sudan, Africa). Children are very welcome and there is no charge for their entrance.
There will be scrumptious food provided by the Spicy Mamas, and cakes by the lovely organisers themselves, Soundscape. Too much fun to miss.
