Splendour of the Season celebrates with music, dance and song

The holidays can be an extremely hectic time for most people. Organizers of this year’s Splendour of the Season are giving everyone a chance to take a break, slow down and bask in the joy of the festive spirit. Presented by Triple Threat Theatre, Splendour of the Season takes the Academy Theatre for Performing Arts stage on Dec. 15 and 16. Show times are 8 p.m. on Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

The annual showcase features a wide range of performers including Nathan and Hannah Lucas, Tom Collver, Tim Croutch, Etta Gunsolus, Sarah Stone, Kawartha Male Chorus, the Odyssey Project and the Blarney Boys. Gael Morrison will accompany many of the performers while also taking the spotlight herself. Even The King will make an appearance - a.k.a. Max Keir - with a unique spin on his hit, Blue Christmas.

“Each year we try to create a show that’s special for everyone,” said Kate Imrie, one of the organizers of the show. “I’m really excited about it. I think it will be a fun show with lots of humour and some touching moments too.” In addition to the line up of talented local individuals of all ages, Splendour also features a number of special guest performers including keyboardist Rob White and dynamic duo Rick and Terri.

“Rick and Terri wanted to do Splendour last year but the timing just wasn’t good for them,” said Mrs. Imrie. “We’re just thrilled to have them on board for this year.” She’s equally happy to have Mr. White taking part. The Bobcaygeon native recently wrapped up tours with the Von Trapp grandchildren - the youngsters returned to the Academy Theatre for a holiday show on Dec. 2 - and is looking forward to helping get everyone into the spirit of the season.
