NEW YORK, Nov. 30 (UPI) — Broadway’s theater community presented a free New York concert to celebrate the end of the stagehand strike and the reopening of many of its shows. Most of Broadway was dark during a work stoppage that began Nov. 10 and ended Wednesday. To mark the shows’ return, the theater community offered a free, star-studded concert dubbed “Broadway’s Back!” at the Marquis Theatre in Manhattan’s Times Square Friday afternoon.

Bob Martin opened the show with a variation on his monologue from “The Drowsy Chaperone,” complete with witty, timely remarks about the strike. Bernadette Peters then joined him on stage, singing, “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” a number that eventually included members of the casts of almost all the musicals on Broadway, Playbill.com reported. Four-time Tony Award-winner Angela Lansbury later appeared and sang “We Need a Little Christmas.” 2007 United Press International.
