4 Heart Harmony presents annual Pipe Screams concert
On Oct. 21 the Pipe Screams concert, presented by the 4 Heart Harmony will be held at the United Congregational Church in Bridgeport at 4 p.m. The entertainment includes performances by Sacred Heart faculty Dr. Joe Utterback, Dr. John Michniewicz, Galen Tate and Dr. Elina Christova Raynor. Other performances from around the area include David Harris from St. Thomas Church, The Norma Pfriem Children’s Choir, and the University of Bridgeport Chamber Singers.
“The church has a big audience and all the seats are always filled,” said Dr. John Michniewicz, Director of Academic Music Program. Many look forward to the Halloween themed concert where Broadway, jazz and recognizable music pieces are performed. There is also a 1920’s Laurel and Hardy short silent film that is shown throughout the evening. “My favorite part, aside from performing, is the silent movie, it is always really funny,” said Jon Parsons, senior, Stoughton, Mass.
The silent movie is accompanied by the organ that is placed in the center for all to view. What really makes this event unique is that all of the performers along with the audience wear their Halloween costumes for the evening, with a chance to win best costume. “My favorite part of Pipe Screams is definitely dressing up and learning the fun pieces,” said Lauren Beier, junior, Mt. Sinai, N.Y. The members of 4 Heart Harmony all have their favorite music pieces that they will be performing.
“My favorite song we are performing is Carl Orff’s ‘O Fortuna,’ which has amazing dynamics,” said Beier. Along with the exceptional music pieces, the costumes create Halloween excitement for everyone. It allows for the adults to dress up and enjoy a night with their family. The 4 Heart Harmony’s practice and dedication for this event will show when the musicians and vocalists are on stage, creating much entertainment throughout the entire church.
